What is the EkoAward?

EkoAward is a scheme designed to bestow recognition to outstanding students in the field of environmental studies. Through the Ekoaward, Ekonnect  intends to serve as a source of inspiration and guidance to students at one of the most crucial junctures in their lives – career planning.

Who is the EkoAward intended for?

Conferred annually, the EkoAward is intended for Doctoral / Post-graduate / Diploma students of first and second year of study, pursuing specialization in subjects such as environmental science, engineering, policy, economics, management and planning from an Indian college / university.

Why apply for the EkoAward?

Securing an EkoAward bestows recognition to outstanding students in the environmental domain. It helps the Awardee “stand out” from the rest of the crowd, a crucial factor for securing admission to higher level studies abroad or even landing a job. Additionally, the various offerings of the EkoAward make it worthwhile to apply.

What does the EkoAward offer?

Keeping true to its intention of inspiring and guiding students in their career planning, EkoAward offers mentor support for the research project undertaken in association with college/university faculty. It also provides the Awardee with a choice between a paid internship of eight weeks with EMC and/or its partner organizations or the opportunity to enroll in one of our Finishing School programs free of participant charges.

How do I apply for the EkoAward?

Applications are reviewed by EMC and its Advisory Board comprising of eminent persons representing education, policy and regulatory bodies, financing institutions and the industry.

Advisory board members include:

  • Prasad Modak, Partner, Environmental Management Centre, Ex-Professor, Centre for Environmental Science and Engg, IIT, Bombay
  • L Ramakrishnan, FIEMA, C Env., Regional Environmental Coordinator, BU: Lamps, Philips Lighting, Asia Pacific Region
  • Hari Sankaran, Managing Director, Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Ltd
  • Paritosh Tyagi, Ex-Chairman, Central Pollution Control Board, New Delhi

A maximum of 10 EkoAwards are announced for each year.

What are the other takeaways of the EkoAward?

An EkoAwardee is presented with the following resources as part of the Award:

• A one-time book grant for purchasing select books
• Counseling for higher education and/or towards securing a job
• Mentor support for the research project undertaken
• Choice between a free registration for a 4-day Finishing School or a paid Internship programme with EMC

Ekonnect invites partnerships for the EkoAwards from business houses and the industry, as well as policy and regulatory bodies. Winter Internships at EMC

EMC invites applications for Internship at its offfice in Mumbai, India for a minimum period of 4 weeks to a maximum of 8 weeks starting from December 1, 2011. Selected interns will work with Dr.Prasad Modak on frontier areas of Environmental Management. Browse www.emcentre.com and visit his professional profile. The internship provides an excellent opportunity for exposure to key national projects/initiatives and best international practices.

Minimum degree is a Bachelor's with a Master's ongoing or recently completed in Environment and allied areas such as Planning, Economics, Science and Engineering. Work experience is desirable but not essential. Email a detailed CV, two page Statement of Purpose and two letters of recommendations. Indicate the start and end dates. A stipend of Rs.4000 will be provided for the 4 weeks and extended on pro rata basis.
