What is EIP?

Environmental Internship Programme (EIP) is an important segment of Ekonnect. As the name suggests, it is a programme designed to groom students to perform well in the professional world. EIP also seeks to reorient professionals to widen their career opportunities in the environmental domain.

Who is EIP intended for?

EIP is intended for students and professionals studying or working in the environmental field.

Why EIP?

EIP has twin objectives. First, traditional classroom-based learning tends to rely on rote learning. The lack of hands-on training through internships means that students find it hard to put their learning to good use in the field. Additionally, in recent years, the remarkable growth of the inter-disciplinary environmental domain means that students and professionals have many more choices of potential careers to explore than was ever possible before. EIP is thus designed to help students gain valuable hands-on experience as well as help them widen their horizons in terms of building and furthering their careers.

What does EIP offer?

To a student, the EIP offers a unique advantage of adding practical experience to formal environmental education. As a professional, one can strengthen core work areas and gain an additional short-term experience on emerging areas of environmental management.

How do I apply for EIP?

There are no fixed dates for joining the EIP. You can write in to us to begin with.

What are the takeaways of EIP?

A completion certificate is issued to each Intern after successful completion of her/his internship with EMC. In most cases, Interns have undertaken full time projects at their universities/institutions following the foundation work done with EMC.  In some cases, the outputs from Interns have been accepted and published at international conferences.

Past Interns of EIP

Thirty interns have participated in the EIP over last four years. These interns have come from premier institutes in India like Indian Institute of Technology, Centre of Environment Planning Technology, Pune University, Symbiosis, TERI University, etc. The topics in internship represent frontier areas like Eco-housing, Environmental Management Systems, Eco-design, GIS applications, Carbon Footprinting etc.

Partner with Ekonnect’s EIP

EMC has structured the EIP in a partnership model with companies/institutions. The idea is to provide students as well as young professionals better learning opportunities and alongside this offer a service to the companies and institutions by providing them with quality interns and potential human resources.

In partnering with the EIP, there will be three stages of internship – the Foundation stage, the Orientation stage and In-Company or Applied stage. While the first two stages will be completed at EMC, the Applied stage will be with the partner company/institution.
