The Concept

The Finishing School on Environmental Management is to provide students/ professionals a connect between "Theory" and "Practice". Filling of the "gaps", "updating" and providing a rounded exposure is the idea.

Who should attend?

The School is open for both students as well as professionals. Participation can also come from companies, government and research institutions. We will limit the School however to only 40 participants. A maximum of 20 seats will be available for the students.

What is the Eligibility Requirement?

Students currently studying environmental management and allied areas (e.g. environmental science, engineering, architecture, planning, economics) at post graduate level.

Young professionals formally trained in environmental management and currently working in the field.

Senior professionals who are interested in the update and a lateral exposure to current topics in environmental management

A selection criteria will be used to ensure that participants are at comparative levels of exposure and experience.

When?

January 16 to 19, 2009

The Duration

The School will run for four days covering Friday to Monday.

Methodology

The School uses a blended learning methodology. It uses elements such as lectures, case studies, discussion sessions, role playing interactives, audio-visuals etc.

Each lecture presentation will have a key discusser so as to guide the discussions.

Core faculty will come from EMC and NITIE. Dr Prasad Modak will be the principal mentor and faculty. In addition there will be faculty and resource persons from business organizations, financing institutions and regulators. Lectures will cover essentials of modern environmental management strategies and tools with case studies. There will be screening of films in the evenings, nature walks in the morning and some interesting dinner speeches from guest faculty.

The participants will go through various exercises. Exercises will include making PowerPoint presentations, doing a document review, using Internet effectively. There will also be an Environmental Quiz.

A session on the last day is dedicated to career planning - both in research as well as in the professional practice. Here, there will be opportunities to meet with potential job providers who would guide participants. A session on "Meet who made it" will be inspirational to connect participants with achievers in India's environmental management.

Flexible Structure

The School is designed for a residential format to allow more interaction between participants.
There are options to attend the School.

Module A: All four days - that we recommend to all students and young professionals

Module B: Two days (Saturday and Sunday) for senior staff of industries, business organizations and financing institutions. The design and conduct of these two days is more oriented to their needs.
